Brightling: Mad Jack Fuller's Tomb
Grahame Stovold ©
Fuller was the wealthy squire of the area around Brightling.
During his lifetime he erected a number of follies in and around Brightling, and when he died in 1834 he was buried in this tomb - The Pyramid - that he had built years before in Brightling Churchyard.
Rumour had it that he was entombed fully dressed wearing a top hat, sitting upright at a table with a bottle of claret within reach. When the tomb was entered for repairs this was found to be untrue.
