West Dean 1
The Warren, West Dean © Ben Ayling

The villages of East Dean and West Dean lay in the valley of the River Lavant on the A286 midway between Chichester and Midhurst. These flint and brickwork cottages are found in abundance in this area.

Nearby is the Weald & Downland open-air Museum at Singleton which houses a collection of buildings which have been brought to Singleton from all over Sussex, and West Dean College which is part of the Edward James Foundation, a charitable trust located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
